“Old” Friends and New Ones

The past few days have been full of ups and downs, literally.  So many hills- I know you veteran cyclists are chuckling since we’ve only just begun.  Thankfully we’re all getting stronger, and we’re all eating a LOT. I can’t keep track of the amount of food these boys have put down. So far maybe three regular meals and one large one daily, plus a couple of snacks.

On one of the first days we had brunch at a sweet restaurant in Bucksport and had the perfect spot, food, scenery, and an awesome waitress, Shari.

After lunch we rode across the Penobscot bridge we had looked at from our lunch table.  We decided to not miss the observatory in the top of this bridge where you have a 360 degree view 100 miles any direction. It’s 447 feet tall. Koen was all in but Eli and Asher had to be bribed to go up because they claimed they didn’t like heights. But they look happy, don’t they?

We rode onward to Belfast where we stayed with the gentleman who opened his backyard up to cyclists. We were spoiled with laundry, showers, and filtered water. Our longtime friend Sande, who we went to graduate school with, brought us a feast for dinner. It was so wonderful to reconnect with our “old” friend. https://drive.google.com/uc?export=view&id=10CBmWkOnFVFC5z1THc7PuW-pneXS0s8J

  6. So, I followed Mike on Strava, and as of June 7 they had almost made it to the New Hampshire border. We are hoping to meet up with them at some point but I can already tell by their stats there is NO WAY we are going to be able to actually ride with them. On the June 7th ride they did 45 miles with 2,766 ft of elevation gain and an average speed of 13 mi/hour. I'm pretty awe-struck by those stats.
